had eight or nine children, Harriet1803,George1805,
Ann1807, Charles1810(10th Feb), Ann1810(17th June?),
Eliza1815, Mary1817, Samuel 1819, and Lucy1822.
George Hurd b 1805, and Sarah Small b
7th Jun 1808 , also from High Ham, married on 26th
July 1831 shortly before their first of eight children, a son Albert, was born on Nov
14th 1831.
Sarah Small was the 5th child of Thomas and Aquilla
Small (nee Lavers) of High Ham
The 1841 census
shows George & Sarah,
both aged 31,
According to the 1851High Ham
census the family was living in Martins Lane, High Ham, with George an
agricultural labourer, Sarah 49, and Elizabeth aged
7 (hence the birth date of 1844). Jonathan then 12 was a domestic servant at the
farm of Francis Gillett in High Ham.
On 10th Dec 1857,
By the time of the April 7th 1861 census there was only George Hurd
55, and Elizabeth 17, recorded. George was a thatcher.
Sometime between the 1861
& 1871 census, George re married Mary Ann, probably in her home
The 1871 census
records George Hurd 67, a thatcher
from Low Ham, his new wife Mary Ann 48 from Othery,
and Elizabeth 25, also from Low Ham. George
had remarried sometime between 1861 and 1871.
The 1881 High Ham
census finds just George Hurd 76, formerly a thatcher, with his wife Mary Ann 57.
Annie Callow 2 months old, also appears
as part of that family for the first time.
George Hurd died 22nd
MAY 1882, aged 77.
Annie Callow of course, went on to marry James Bown1874
of Middlezoy in 1907.
