The Lockyer & Bown families we are concerned with here are both branches of the families that came from Middlezoy, nr Bridgwater, Somerset, UK.

George Lockyer (b1817) married Jane Kick (b1820) in 1849.

In 1851(census) George 33, was a farmer in Middlezoy, with 18 acres

In 1861(census) George 43, was a farmer in Middlezoy, with 25 acres and 1 labourer.

They had a least six children, William Field (b1849), Eliza Jane (b1852), an un named twin of Eliza that died at birth, Frank J (b1854), Marianna (b1858- d 1872 age14), Richard Field (b1860).

William Field Lockyer (b1849), and then Richard Field Lockyer (b1860), brothers of Eliza Jane, emigrated to Illinois, during 1870-80.

Albert Bown (b1872), Eliza Jane’s son, also emigrated to Illinois, USA late in the 1880's, and was thought to have initially stayed with his Uncle, Richard Field Lockyer. (Albert's mother was Eliza Jane Lockyer (b1852), who married Walter Bown (b1843)
